In 2014, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners received word that they were going to receive one million dollars in capital improvement funds for a Museum of Fulton County and Welcome Center to go along with the new Fulton County Full-Service Maintenance Facility. The new facilities were part of a larger state project to replace an aged state highway maintenance garage and the relocation of the County’s Emergency Operations Center.
The new maintenance facility included a new truck storage building with an administrative section, a mechanical service section and a vehicle wash bay. In addition, the FSM included a cold storage structure, salt storage structure, material storage structure, an above ground fuel storage tank and brine/calcium system. The facility was fenced and included automatic gates for ease of access.
The new Fulton County Heritage Center is a shared services facility with the Fulton County Department of Public Safety and the Ohio Turnpike Commission. The facility includes area for visitor and tourism, space for collection and storage of documents and artifacts for both public display and research, space for data collection and cataloguing of records. Also, the Ohio Department of Public Safety Program includes offices for Emergency management and Emergency medical services. The new Emergency Operation Center is used by both the county and ODOT and possesses a satellite office for the Sheriff and State Highway Patrol.
To offset the overhead costs of furnishing the Museum inside the gallery and maintain its operations a fund raising campaign was initiated by the Fulton County Historical Society. The end result was the “new” Museum of Fulton County and Welcome Center. The new facility is located in the geographic enter of the county on SH 108 North of the Turnpike across from the Fulton County Fairgrounds.
