Wynford New Middle School/High School
Bucyrus, Ohio
This 90,625sf building houses the middle school on the second floor and the high school on the first floor with shared core spaces for the different grade levels. The building is located on the existing high school site with portions of the 1964 high school being razed. After this OFCC project is completed, the new structure will be connected to the renovated old structure. One of the owner’s goals was to save such assets as their auditorium, gymnasium, and agricultural shops while creating a community / senior center in the old cafeteria space.
This project is seeking a Gold Certification under LEED for Schools. Unique to the new 600-student 6-12 school is extra consideration for security and extended learning areas. Enhanced security measures include: bullet resistant glazing, electronic access control, the ability to close off the educational wings from a central location, exterior egress windows, video monitoring, double latch doors and visitor identification software. There will be 6 extended learning areas along with 8 break out small group rooms, all located adjacent to the classrooms. The school will be rich in technology and natural daylight.
