West Toledo Branch Library Renovation
Toledo, Ohio
This 80 plus year old Tudor-style library began renovation during the fall of 2013 to update all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems towards more energy efficient products that will help reduce and maintain costs. The project also incorporates a new addition off the main entrance for the Children’s area, additional technology, new windows, and an elevator to utilize the auditorium space located on the basement level. Another major goal of the project was to remove structural elements within the center of the building to open sight lines for users and staff.
During the design phase of the project the library held public meetings with the neighbors and addressed some of the requests within the project such as more quiet study spaces, café space, wireless capability, additional computers, training areas and highlighting the architectural elements of the building such as the exposed wood trusses.
