Bowling Green State University Eppler North & Central Renovation

Bowling Green, Ohio

This project was completed in two phases. Phase one of the Eppler North renovation project at Bowling Green State University consisted of relocating the School of Family and Consumer Sciences from two separate existing buildings to a newly renovated north wing of the Eppler Complex. The two-story space includes offices for over forty faculty members, storage and ancillary spaces for the School, new labs and storage for the Apparel Merchandizing and Product Development program, as well as a shared computer lab, multi-use classroom, and “touchdown” collaboration space.

As with any renovation, this project certainly possessed its own design challenges. The first was shuffling the existing occupants of the Eppler Complex in a way that still accommodated their needs and maintained the functionality for their programs, while providing a new functional space for the new inhabitants. The project team also had to design an interior that would be cohesive with the other two existing wings of the building, but give an updated facelift to the newly renovated area. A third challenge included converting an old second-floor gymnasium with thirty-foot ceilings and existing wood floors into two AMPD labs and storage rooms. Our design team worked closely with the client to achieve a design that met the expectations of the University, while accommodating and appeasing the existing and new end-users of the building. Phase two work included demolition, installation of new walls, painting, new flooring, new doors, new ceilings and new casework. This project also included all associated plumbing, HVAC, and electrical work including lighting, power, voice and data wiring, and fire alarm work.
