Feasibility Studies
Buehrer Group has been involved in more than 50 facilities studies for school districts, religious groups, and public libraries. These typically involve meeting with staff members and community members to obtain input. Comprehensive assessments of existing buildings and site are provided based on both the condition of existing facilities and the adequacy for providing the desired services. Our services include review and validation of existing master plan and proposed other possible master plan options, followed with suggested written communications and renderings.
Being a leader in ‘green’ energy and environmental design we have also assisted with Wind Turbine Studies for school districts in Ohio.
Bond Issues
Buehrer Group will provide the following for promoting bond issues:
- Schematic design of the schools
- Involvement of community leaders and school staff in planning
- Presentation of the proposed design on site
Buehrer Group’s Project Manager, Project Architect, will assist the community to promote the bond issue. The requirements for passing a bond issue include:
- Voter recognition of need for facilities
- Reasonable solutions provided
- Voter belief that they are receiving a good value for money invested
- Voter confidence in leadership
Construction Administration
Buehrer Group is the only firm in our region to have provided a fulltime construction administrator on the site of every new school over $6,000,000 in size over the last 13 years. This has been done on projects involving a construction management firm and on projects without construction management. As a result, Buehrer Group has successfully served school districts that are located up to 3½ hours from Maumee in the design and construction of major new school facilities.
Buehrer Group provides a job trailer on the site complete with electric, phone, fax, and computer as our construction administrator inspects each phase of the project on a continual basis, checks shop drawings, meets with the owner, partners with the construction manager, meets with the contractors, conducts job meetings with the contractors, reviews pay requests, meets with building inspectors, city officials, the local fire chief, and others. Each day the construction administrator prepares a written report of the activities taking place on the site. There is no extra charge for this very important service.
At the regular job meetings conducted weekly or bi-weekly, an additional member of the Buehrer Group staff will also be in attendance. It is customary for Kent Buehrer, Brent Buehrer and/or the project architect to be present for all job meetings. When requested or as needed, our architects, engineers, or other staff members visit the job site to assist in resolving issues or help in making decisions. Since nearly all engineering is performed by Buehrer Group’s on-staff engineers, the firm is in a better position to be flexible and generous in facilitating site visits by the engineers who designed the many complex systems that go into today’s school facilities. Design firms relying on consulting engineers, do not have this flexibility.
Innovative Design Services
Buehrer Group has established a reputation for delivering high quality professionally designed educational technology systems to meet the needs of today’s learning environment. We have vast experience in designing school buildings that provide “state-of-the-art” technology not just for current needs but with the flexibility, capacity and performance to accommodate the technology needs of the future.
Currently the firm has three new schools in construction which are pursuing LEED Certification with the US Green Building Council. In addition, the new LHS School has recently been LEED Silver certified. This is the second school in Ohio to achieve LEED Certification.
