LEED®
About LEED®
The LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System™ is a feature-oriented rating system that awards buildings points for satisfying specified green building criteria. The six major environmental categories of review include: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality and Innovation and Design. Certified, Silver, Gold, and Platinum levels of LEED® green building certification are awarded based on the total number of points earned within each LEED® category.
Buehrer Group and LEED®
Sustainability is a significant focus for Buehrer Group Architecture & Engineering, Inc. The firm’s predecessor company had a long history in the area of energy analysis and energy efficient design. Today, Buehrer Group is a member of the US Green Building Council, and its staff includes 20 LEED® accredited professionals covering the major design disciplines of architecture, structural engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, site design and interior design. Currently, the firm has six LEED® certified buildings and eight projects with LEED® certification applications pending.
In April 2009 Buehrer Group’s Architectural Studio was awarded LEED® Gold, which was the 1st in Northwest Ohio. Buehrer Group was notified soon after of another project award for the design of the New School for Lutheran Homes Society, which received LEED® Silver certification. This LEED® Silver award was a first for a school in the State of Ohio, designed by an ‘Ohio’ architectural firm. The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library - Reynolds Corners Branch was awarded LEED® Gold in late fall 2009, becoming the first LEED® certified public library in the State of Ohio. Buehrer Group was notified in July 2010 of Bowling Green Middle School and Performing Arts Center earning LEED® Gold Certification, making it the first LEED® Gold school in the State of Ohio under the LEED® for Schools program, as well as the first LEED® Gold performing arts center in Ohio.
Buehrer Group is one of the most progressive firms in our region when it comes to including “green” features in our facilities. We have earned a reputation for designing buildings that are environmentally friendly as well as functional. Thinking the process through prior to documentation and evaluating all project related systems and materials, with respect to current and anticipated needs, ensures that a building will have a long life and be easy and cost effective to maintain.
