Hope United Methodist Church Kitchen Renovation

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

Whitehouse, Ohio

Hope United Methodist is a small church with a growing and active congregation. In order to help them grow the existing facility which was much too small needed to be expanded.  Kitchen facilities were extremely modest, cramped and out dated.  The kitchen could no longer successfully accommodate the types of events the church was undertaking.   The youth of the church needed their own separate area where they could be on their own and there was never enough adequate space for storage of seasonal items that accompanied the worship service.

An existing three walled exterior court yard was enclosed providing the footprint for a new kitchen twice the size and centrally located.  This new location allowed the kitchen to have two separate serving lines in two different areas of the church at the same time.

As a part of this addition the youth received their own designated space separated from the adult areas.  A small kitchenette was designed in providing these younger members of the congregation a space where they could truly be themselves.

The additions designed and constructed in such a way that it could easily accommodate a second floor.  This new area was fire suppressed and offered the congregation the storage space that they so desperately needed. The roof lines and roofing material, a standing seam metal roof, was compatible with the existing church assuring that the addition could be successfully integrated, respecting the original design.

Also as a part of this project new high efficiency furnaces were installed and existing asphalt shingles and underlayment were replace.

BGSU Gish Film Theater

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

Bowling Green, Ohio

Bowling Green State University opened the Dorothy and Lillian Gish Theater and Gallery in 1976.  The theater, which is located in Hanna Hall, has many mementoes on display from the lives of the sisters.  The gallery houses memorabilia from the legendary film actresses’ careers and artifacts associated with them.  In 1990, Buehrer Group designed an extensive renovation to the 168 seat film theater, featuring new seating, wall treatments, ceilings and lighting.  Then in 1994, Buehrer Group designed a replacement of the air conditioning system.

In 1996, Buehrer Group designed a gallery expansion to accommodate the acquisition of memorabilia Lillian Gish left to the University when she dies in 1993.  The expanded gallery included books, photographs and the gown worn by Gish when she received an Academy Award for lifetime achievement.

More recently, Dr. Ralph Wolfe of the Gish film Theater has acquired a large holding of video tapes/films/DVDs for Bowling Green State University.  This collection has been developed into a library of tapes.  The tapes will be utilized by the Film Study students in order to gain a historical perspective of films.  This collection includes those films that film study majors are required to view as part of their curriculum.  Buehrer Group Architecture & Engineering, Inc.  designed the renovation of existing classroom space at Hanna Hall into a student viewing room and library.  Finally a small renovation featuring new glass entrance doors to the theater was constructed in 2006 to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the theater.

1st in Northwest Ohio to be Awarded National LEED Gold Certification

Maumee, Ohio

Buehrer Group main office has been located at 314 Conant Street in uptown Maumee, Ohio since 1989. In recent years our business has grown and we had to rent space for additional employees in a building down the street. When the building adjacent to ours, 316 Conant Street, became available we purchased it in order to get all of our employees under one roof.  We encourage our clients to attempt LEED certification for their buildings and we used this renovation opportunity to create a building we could use to educate clients in green building technologies and methods. In April 2009, this facility became the first LEED Gold Certified project in Northwest Ohio.
