The Teen Area of the Main Branch Library blended in with the remainder of the library. Though the Main Branch has a classic look, the library staff felt that the Teen Area needed to be something special. In order to provide separation, glass partitions were installed around the perimeter. Trendy, teen-friendly carpet was introduced, followed by new computer workstations, tables, and task and lounge seating. In addition, a Gaming Room with three LCD TVs and gaming consoles were incorporated as well. With the final touch of an attention-getting entrance, “The Metro” was born.
Located adjacent to the Teen Area, the Technology and Circulating Periodical Sections were also renovated. Multiple built-in bookcases were removed and a new plaster system was installed to match the existing plaster walls. The carpet was replaced throughout the spaces and new ergonomic furniture was brought it, as well as a new reference station. The Technology Section, which houses the public computers, increased in capacity and now serves as an aesthetically and functionally pleasing space.
